Police Shootings: Sydney & Melbourne

In two distinct incidents, police in Australia have shot three men, leaving two in a critical condition fighting for their lives. The New South Wales police force confirmed that around midday on Friday, they were called in response to a report of a stolen vehicle in Wentworthville’s car park, located in the west of Sydney. The officers opened fire at the car when it was reportedly driven towards them.

The stolen car, as per reports that were later confirmed by Karen McKeown, the Member of Parliament for Penrith, belonged to her and her husband. Upon inspection of the car, the police discovered two injured men. They promptly provided first aid until the paramedics arrived. The injured men were then transported to Westmead Hospital, where one is said to be in a critical condition and the other is said to be in a severe but stable condition.

Karen Webb, the Commissioner of the New South Wales police, briefed reporters on the ongoing critical incident investigation, promising an independent review. She didn’t comment on the allegations of the car belonging to a politician, claiming it was too early for details.

Karen McKeown gave a statement concerning her house being burgled on the previous Thursday evening, during which the car was stolen. “Despite the distress of the event, I remain unhurt,” she conveyed gratitude to the local policing authorities in Penrith and Cumberland for their swift action.

In an unrelated event earlier that Friday, a man was shot by police in northwest Melbourne’s Hillside after being identified as the perpetrator in a fatal stabbing case. The incident is being examined as a family violence case involving a dispute between the guilty party and his father, stated Detective Inspector Dean Thomas.
