Joe Biden’s quote from Yeats’ poem ‘The Second Coming’ in his parting speech at the UN General Assembly, asserting ‘the centre has held’ despite significant contrary proof, belittles the great poet’s work (World, 24th September).
Biden’s kind could indeed be portrayed in the very same poem by Yeats: “A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun”
