Pilots from Aer Lingus could potentially go on strike, pending a vote

The Irish Airline Pilot’s Association (Ialpa) is encouraging their members, who are pilots of Aer Lingus, to vote in favour of a potential strike. This comes after the pilots dismissed proposals put forward by the Labour Court, intended to temporarily resolve ongoing salary disputes with the airline.

Ialpa released a statement on Wednesday, suggesting that a ballot for industrial action represents the newest development in the continuing conflict. The Association has urged pilots to support the possible industrial strike action.

In the words of Ialpa president, Captain Mark Tighe, proposals submitted so far have fallen short of the airline’s soaring profits. This includes the 9.25 percent increase suggested by the Labour Court, a figure which neglects to account for the airline’s significant profitability.

As evidence, Captain Tighe mentioned that Aer Lingus reported profits of €225 million last year, which is quadruple its earnings in 2022. Further updates are expected on the matter.
