Pillar of power

Dear friend, I found Beatrice M Doran’s insightful piece on George Roe (featured in An Irishwoman’s Diary, July 16th) immensely pleasurable, particularly with respect to his distillery stretching over 17 acres from Thomas Street to the River Liffey. The 150-foot smock windmill crafted in 1759, firmly standing till date, is not situated within the confines of the Guinness Brewery as the author pointed out. Rather, it is majestically possessed and preserved by The Digital Hub. The windmill, also termed as St Patrick’s Tower, is a notable landmark in the Liberties. We eagerly anticipate the initiation of restoration work to resurrect the ground floor for community utility. Kind regards,

FIACH Mac CONGHAIL,
Chief Executive Officer,
