The Tipperary senior football club has appointed Philly Ryan as their new manager. Ryan, a former goalkeeper for the same team in the 1990s and early 2000s, will bring his extensive background and dedication to the position, having contributed to the county’s football for several decades in multiple roles.
Ryan strongly believes in the football players, stating their judgement will be based on his commitment level and knowledge. He highlights that while everyone plays a part, the team is ultimately the star, and as such, personal egos should not obstruct the team’s progress. His mantra revolves around achieving tremendous results without caring who receives the acknowledgment.
Looking ahead, Ryan shared his tactical approach, aiming to play an assertive direct form of football, moving swiftly using both hands and feet. “We tend to initiate the game towards the rival rather than taking a defensive stance, simply waiting for a turnover, and planning to play counter-attacking football. We’re going to be forward-thinking and assertive,” he elaborated.
Ferghal McDonnell, the chairman of the Tipperary football committee, welcomed Ryan’s addition to the team, citing that it was a highly favourable turn of events for the county. McDonnell expressed his confidence in Ryan’s sound understanding of, and fondness for, Tipperary football, adding that he wished him and his management squad great success.
Joining Ryan’s management squad will be Paul Cahill and Cathal Naughton, with the announcement of additional team members due in the following weeks.
