Dear Reader,
As we draw near to the conclusion of Irish Language Week, I wish to commend the initiatives of marketers who have incorporated the use of Irish dialect and subtitles in their commercials.
Truly, the animated guitar-wielding canary cautioning against carbon monoxide poisoning captivates whilst delivering its crucial message astutely. Nonetheless, being an alumnus of Christian Brothers from the era of the ’70s, I chuckle at the thought of the commotion, had I astutely translated “house work” into Irish slang – “poxy chores”.
Yours sincerely,
Donal Harrington,

County Mayo.
