Pensioner Charged in Fermanagh Death

A 70-year-old male has been formally accused of culpable homicide by reckless driving resulting in the death of a motorbike rider in the hit and run incident in Fermanagh. The victim, identified as Richard Maze of the same age, was riding his motorcycle in Belleek on the afternoon of Thursday when an accident with a non-stopping car took place. Sadly, he was declared dead at the site of the crash.

The PSNI public relations officer announced that emergency service teams were alerted about the grave road accident on Boa Island Road around 2.55pm on the same day. “Officers, together with fellow emergency responders, tried to provide immediate medical support to the 70-year-old man, Richard Maze. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries on the spot”, the representative stated. “Richard was the motorcyclist involved in a crash with a dark-coloured car which did not pull over.”

As part of their ongoing investigations, the authorities managed to detain a man, aged 70, suspecting him of culpable homicide by reckless driving. He faced charges this morning and is due to face trial next month.

The police are reaching out to anyone who was travelling on Boa Island Road between 2:30pm and 2:45pm, who might have witnessed the accident or recorded it on dashcam, to get in touch by dialling 101 and quoting the reference 922 19/09/24. – PA.
