Pedestrian Safety and Electric Vehicles

Dear Sir,

A recent study from the University of Limerick has shed light on a pressing issue – electric vehicle drivers are statistically more prone to accidents, with the casualty rate amongst pedestrians being 2.76 times higher compared to incidents involving petrol and diesel vehicles. This shouldn’t come as a shock (News, 30th September). Many pedestrians have been caught off guard by the sudden, silent approach of an electric vehicle in car parks, proving that these cars don’t provide sufficient auditory warning. To curb the rising pedestrian casualty rate, there’s an urgent requirement to raise the sound level that these vehicles are obligated to produce.

Yours faithfully,
Henry Cruise
