New peak in coronavirus infections is a cause for concern

The main cause may be related to vaccination in the UK, where immunity has weakened earlier than in other countries.

While in most European countries, such as Spain, cases seem to be stabilising, the situation in other countries, such as the United Kingdom, is worrying, where infections are soaring again.

New peak of infections in the UK, what are the causes?

There appear to be several causes, but among the most important is vaccination, and it seems that the health authorities will have a very hard winter to control this new outbreak that is emerging in the UK.

Until now, the UK has led the campaign in Europe, but logically its immunity has also started to weaken before that of the other countries, and this seems to be especially the case for the older vaccinated.

Coupled with this, the lifting of restrictions has meant that indoor crowds are starting to occur and few people are wearing masks as in England it is voluntary.

Concern about a new spike in UK infections

According to official figures, 7,086 patients are currently hospitalised with COVID-19.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS), meanwhile, calculated that the total increase in cases means that one in 60 people in England had contracted COVID in the week to 9 October, compared with one in 45 in Wales, one in 80 in Scotland and one in 120 in Northern Ireland.

New spike in UK infections despite vaccination progress

On Sunday, 45,140 people in the UK tested positive for COVID-19, figures that are beginning to alert the country to possible complications from the virus.

More than 85% of people aged 12 and over in the UK have already received the first dose of the vaccine and more than 78% have received both doses, according to the latest UK figures.
