Paul Pogba’s Ban for Doping Reduced to 18 Months

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced on Friday that Paul Pogba’s doping ban has been reduced from four years to 18 months. The reduced ban will commence on September 11th, 2023, according to information provided by Matthieu Reeb, the Director General of CAS.

In September 2023, Pogba, a French international, received a provisional suspension from the Italian national anti-doping agency (NADO Italia) following a positive test for the banned substance DHEA, which enhances testosterone levels.

Pogba, 31, who is contracted to Juventus, an Italian club, until June 2026, had vehemently denied any rule violations. He indicated in February that he would pursue an appeal via CAS.

The athlete was examined for doping following Juventus’s 3-0 triumph over Udinese in the Serie A season opener on August 20, 2023.

The tribunal found signs of forbidden “non-endogenous testosterone metabolites” during their investigation, stating that the outcomes were “in line with the external origin of the targeted compounds”.
