Pat Kenny’s Media Company Profits Plunge

Pat Kenny’s broadcasting firm witnessed a 60% slump in profits last year, according to the latest accounts filed. The records lodged with the Companies Registration Office signal that Pat Kenny Media Services’ profits plummeted to €99,415 by the end of June 2023, a significant decrease from the €248,178 profit marked in 2022.

The company, solely directed by Kenny and his wife Kathy, noted a slight rise in its assets from €2.3 million in the previous year to nearly €2.4 million by the end of the year. Kenny (76) uses this corporation as a channel for the income he gains as a host. The metrics revealed this week that his listenership on Newstalk has soared to an unprecedented level, becoming the most widely received show on commercial radio in Ireland.

Currently, Kenny’s morning programme on Newstalk, a segment of the German-owned Bauer Media Audio Ireland group, holds 229,000 listeners, data obtained from the Joint National Listenership Research survey from April 2023 to March end suggest. This number has risen by 13,000 from the previous year’s survey, but more crucially, Newstalk’s listenership has escalated significantly by 55,000 listeners over the past year, putting it in 14th place among the most-listened-to programmes on Irish radio.

Stats emerging from last autumn further validate this trend as Kenny, who transitioned from RTÉ to Newstalk in 2013, emerges as the main beneficiary amidst turbulent times for Irish radio.
