Monaghan goalie Rory Beggan was recently under trial as a kicker at the Carolina Panthers. Sadly, after his practice session and interviews with the local press, he was not contracted by the club. He was one of four Irish competitors who participated in the NFL combine that took place at the end of February under the NFL’s international player pathway.
Rory was previously a player for Monaghan in the Ulster championship after he returned from the combine. His future availability for the All-Ireland championship confrontation with Kerry on the 18th of May is uncertain following his failure to secure a contract with the Panthers.
In related news, Charlie Smyth from Down and Mayobridge who also tried out at the combine, successfully secured a three-year contract with the New Orleans Saints. Meanwhile, Mark Jackson from Wicklow is currently on trial with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
