A man facing murder charges, Padraig Delaney, 43, of The Lane, Eustace Demesne, Naas, is set to apply for bail in the ensuing week. Delaney is accused of killing 37-year-old Shane Knott at the same address sometime between April 3rd and 14th of this year. Via video link from Cloverhill Prison, where he is currently detained, Delaney attended Naas District Court last Thursday.
In court, Sgt Dave Hanrahan expressed that the Director of Public Prosecutions had not yet provided instruction on the case’s proceeding. Despite the case being relatively recent, having only been brought forward on April 16th, Hanrahan hopes there won’t be an “undue delay” in receiving instructions from the DPP, proposing a 28-day deferral.
Det Gda Christine Brady discussed the ongoing investigation, noting the guard’s 251 lines of query and 105 statements in progress. Brady also mentioned advancing matters pertaining to DNA evidence usage.
On the other hand, the defence solicitor, Tim Kennelly, declared his intentions to request bail conditions on the next Tuesday. Kennelly expressed dissatisfaction with the delay, emphasising that such cases should be managed at the Central Criminal Court.
Kennelly expressed confusion as to the case’s lack of progress when speaking to Judge Michael Ramsey. He noted that there was no approval for extended remand from the defendant who he had met the previous Wednesday. Despite his application for the matter to be made peremptory against the State, the court dismissed it.
The case was postponed to May 16th by Judge Ramsey.
