O’Riley Confirmed to Join Brighton

Brendan Rodgers has indicated that Matt O’Riley’s transfer from Celtic to Brighton should finalise “in the next few days.” O’Riley, the 23-year-old Danish footballer, is currently in the south for a medical exam in preparation for his transfer. The deal is reputedly valued at £25 million (€29 million), providing a significant profit for Celtic, who initially signed O’Riley from MK Dons for a fee of £1.5m in January 2022.

Prior to the William Hill Premiership match against St Mirren in Paisley, Rodgers shared with BBC Scotland that he anticipates O’Riley will finish his medical in Brighton soon and that the transaction should conclude in the coming days. Although he expressed dissatisfaction at the prospect of losing such a player, he recognised O’Riley’s ambition to play in the Premier League and the viability of the club’s business model.

Rodgers also divulged that Celtic is eyeing other potential players to add to their squad, with 20-year-old Arne Engels from Augsburg specifically mentioned. Despite the desire for less last-minute dealings, Rodgers remains optimistic about strengthening the squad during the final week and is looking forward to the rest of the season post-September.
