The Met Éireann has issued a status orange rain warning for Donegal, Galway, and Mayo amidst a forecast of unpredictable weather across Ireland. This upgraded notice, active from midnight Sunday until 10am Monday, anticipates intensive, steady rainfall which could potentially cause localised flooding.
Motorists are cautioned of the possibility of challenging driving conditions and low visibility. In addition, a separate status yellow weather warning is also in effect from noon Sunday to noon Monday for Clare, five counties of Connacht and Donegal.
A forecast for Sunday predicts that weather would be largely overcast as long-lasting rain in the West gradually reaches into Ulster and parts of north Leinster during the afternoon. In the West and north, intermittent heavy downpours are expected, coupled with occasional light drizzle in other places.
Temperature highs ranging from 17 to 20 degrees are projected alongside developing gusty winds originating from the south. The forecast for Monday morning indicates the likelihood of heavy rainfall in the West and northwest alongside isolated thundery episodes and possibility of local flooding.
The rain is expected to gradually move eastward throughout the morning and afternoon, clearing into the Irish Sea by evening. The highest temperatures on Monday are forecast to be between 18 to 22 degrees.
