Opinions vary on the topic of algal blooms

Dear Sir,

A recent algal bloom in Northern Ireland has undeniably altered the appearance of Lough Neagh, turning its waters a striking shade of green (Opinion & Analysis, July 23rd). This isn’t an unprecedented event. In the not-too-distant past, Dublin Bay in the Republic of Ireland faced a similar transformation when an algal bloom turned its waters orange, as confirmed by tests (‘Sandycove turned orange due to algal bloom’, News, June 25th, 2019).

Sincerely,

MICHAEL KEEGAN from Booterstown, Co Dublin.
