ONS commented about rapes by police
Nick Stripe, head of crime statistics at the ONS, stated the police figures show a “great raise in the recording of rape and sexual offences during the latest April to June 2021 quarter”, but advised warning when describing the data.
He also added that the increase could be due to an addition in victim reporting as lockdowns released, an addition in the number of victims, or a raise in victims’ eagerness to state incidents. It might be potentially as a result of high-profile events and campaigns in recent times.”
