O’Mahony Misses Munster-Leinster Derby

The former captain of Munster, Peter O’Mahony, will be missed on the team due to ongoing injury issues, preventing his participation in the upcoming BKT URC showdown with Leinster at Croke Park this Saturday, slated for 5.45pm. Both he and Oli Jager endured injuries in their recent triumph over the Ospreys, a win that resulted in a 23-0 score line and a bonus-point, but also resulted in hamstring and neck injuries, necessitating medical scans. Munster has confirmed both men will sit out this weekend’s game.

Mike Haley, who suffered a leg contusion in the same match, may yet play; however, a final decision will be made later in the week. Also, it is uncertain whether Tom Ahern, Alex Nankivell, and Billy Burns have recovered sufficiently from respective ankle and shoulder injuries and will be ready for this weekend’s match. While reintegration into training will increase this week, Ruadhán Quinn, a backrower, is observing the return-to-play protocols and his status will be confirmed later in the week.

Contrarily, Shane Daly is expected to sit out this week as he recovers from an elbow injury while Thaakir Abrahams, following a mild thigh injury incurred last Saturday in the match against Zebre, has been confirmed to be unavailable for the Leinster match.

Rory Scannell and Paddy Patterson, who’ve been on the long-term injured list with ankle and knee issues respectively, are on track with their rehabilitation and will intensify their training this week. Patrick Campbell is due to have surgery following a shoulder injury during an AIL match last month, whereas, Josh Wycherley is lined up for specialist examination regarding a neck injury.

Furthermore, Liam Coombes, Diarmuid Kilgallen, Brian Gleeson, Cian Hurley, Edwin Edogbo, and Roman Salanoa, all nursing various injuries, will remain off the field.
