Ireland’s sprinter, Rhasidat Adeleke, narrowly missed securing a medal as she came in fourth in the 400m final at the Olympics. Displaying her prowess before a massive audience of 77,000 spectators at the Stade de France, Adeleke managed to finish the race in 49.28 seconds. Unfortunately, this was not enough to firmly grasp the bronze medal, as she was overtaken by Poland’s Natalia Kaczmarek in the final 50 metres who completed the race in 48.98 seconds.
The race saw Marileidy Paulino from the Dominican Republic set a new Olympic record of 48.17 seconds to clinch the gold. This is an addition to the silver medal that the 27-year-old had previously earned in Tokyo three years prior. Paulino utterly stole the show with her extraordinary performance. Meanwhile, Bahrain’s Salwa Eid Naser seized the silver medal after recording her quickest time of the year, a swift 48.53 seconds.
