Head of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Tony Estanguet, has validated the ongoing inquiry into his remuneration as the chair of the organising body. “A financial examiner’s office has been inspecting this matter for some months now,” confirmed Estanguet on Saturday. He included no further remarks, except that his salary was set in 2018 and he was absent when the decision was taken.
The French press had been discussing the probe since the previous February, yet the Paris 2024 executives chose not to verify this news, only revealing their astonishment. Paris 2024 declared in 2018 that Estanguet received an annual compensation package of €270,000. Michael Aloisio, the Deputy CEO of Paris 2024, emphasized that legal guidelines did not impose a salary cap, contrary to press claims.
A statement issued by Paris 2024 in February said: “We feel it is necessary to make it clear that the remuneration of the Organising Committee’s President is highly regulated and subject to a rigid structure.”
