The report by Arthur Beesley certainly did provide some thought-provoking insights (“Legal Uncertainty Risks for Migration Rules, Warned Officials Prior to O’Gorman’s Assurances”, News, June 6th). It has come to our attention that prior to the family care referendums, there were legal apprehensions regarding migration expressed by the Department of Justice officials.
During the campaign leading up to the referendums, individuals who raised any such issues were often dismissed as spreading misinformation or accused of harbouring far-right ideologies. However, we must ask, how can a common citizen navigate these intricate matters without access to complete transparency and all relevant information before casting their vote?
Our democracy could stand to suffer if this challenge is not addressed by official Ireland. It is their responsibility to ensure citizens are well-informed in order to make their democratic decisions. – Yours faithfully,
