“Offences and their Consequences”

Dear Editor,

It appears that a prevailing sentiment exists that unless an individual convicted of a significant crime is given a jail term, they have managed to “evade punishment”. This standpoint, unfortunately, overlooks the impactful blow to one’s reputation, which essentially amounts to a lifelong penalty, and the future implications of a criminal record appearing in any subsequent inspection.

Despite occasional errors and discrepancies, the justice executed in court is undeniably more favourable than that delivered by the court of public opinion.

Yours sincerely,
Margaret Lee,
Newport,
County Tipperary.
