There’s increasing chatter around a possible reunion of the iconic Oasis band, as Liam and Noel Gallagher stoke rumours with cryptic messages ahead of a planned announcement on Tuesday morning. The Gallagher brothers have stirred excitement among fans through cryptic posts on their individual and band’s social media platforms and website, that exhibited the band’s emblematic typeface and style, reading “27.08.24” and shortly after, “8am.”
Oasis, which came into prominence during the 1990s, attained tremendous fame globally with their unforgettable hits such as Wonderwall, Don’t Look Back In Anger, and Stop Crying Your Heart Out. They decided to part ways in 2009, allegedly due to a quarrel that ensued backstage during a Paris concert. Post the split, both brothers embarked on individual career paths.
Liam’s response to fans seeking affirmations, mixed with humour and ambiguity, has added more fuel to the speculation. When criticised by a fan on X, previously known as Twitter, over the choice of venue, Heaton Park, Liam cheekily retorted, “See you down the front.” In response to an enquiry about when the reunion dates would be unveiled, he answered, “Next Friday.”
The whispers around a potential reunion have been circulating since the band’s dissolution in 2009, but the recent developments and visible thawing of their longstanding feud have amplified the rumours. Over the summer, Liam had been touring the UK as part of his Definitely Maybe tour, commemorating the 30 years since its debut in 1994. Notably, Noel has been missing from these concerts. However, during a performance in Cardiff, Liam dedicated Half The World Away to his estranged sibling, which fuelled the anticipation further.
Liam also performed several of the Oasis hits as the headlining act at Leeds Festival last Friday, and is also pegged to be the leading performer at the companion event in Reading on Sunday. The fast-paced conjecture now suggests that the forthcoming announcement on Tuesday could unfold plans for the Gallagher brothers to reunite for a tour in 2025, with perhaps a much-coveted headline slot at Glastonbury also in consideration.
