“Nurse Overpaid €5,500 for Dual Employment”

A Health Service Executive probe has discovered that a nurse received surplus payments exceeding €5,000 by commencing a new role whilst on sick leave from a previous job. An internal check revealed that the nurse was incorrectly paid for a duration of 56 calendar days spanning from November 2022 to January 2023. The evidence suggested indications of possible irregular conduct by the worker during the overlapping period between the two roles.

The internal review has observed that the employee seemingly supplied medical certificates to the HSE in one area while working in another, thereby incurring double payments to their advantage. The HSE has conceded to a suggestion to report the alleged fraud to An Garda Síochána.

The worker embarked on sick leave from Kerry mental health services on October 26th, 2022 and ended their tenure there on January 22nd, 2023. They began their employment in Limerick on November 28th, 2022 and asserted that their final working day in Kerry was November 25th, as per the report. A single reference was offered which did not pertain to their Kerry employment.

The investigative procedure determined that the overpayment amount was €5,539.14. The internal audit suggested that the senior HSE management in Limerick report this “ethical breach” to the institution governing the profession i.e. the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.
