Noel Anderson-led Consortium Buys McSorley’s

A group of former Irish rugby stars, led by publican Noel Anderson, has purchased the renowned Ranelagh pub McSorley’s for €5.5 million. As part of the deal, McSorley’s will be incorporated into the Grand Slam Bars portfolio, managed by Anderson and his partners, retired Irish internationals Jamie Heaslip, Dave Kearney, Rob Kearney, and Sean O’Brien.

Prior to this acquisition, the consortium already had ownership of Lemon & Duke in central Dublin, the Bridge 1859 located in Ballsbridge, and the Blackrock pub in south Dublin. The purchase from the long-time owners, the Murray family, had been hot gossip for a few weeks leading up to the sale.

This addition will mean Grand Slam Bars will now employ over 200 people, up by 25 following the McSorley’s acquisition. The consortium plans to keep many of the beloved features of the pub and is considering the possibility of including an extensive cocktail menu. They also aim to plan special events relating to the Autumn Internationals rugby match and the Six Nations championship next year.

“No drastic changes are expected as we understand and respect what McSorley’s means to its clientele and the special place it holds in Ranelagh and beyond. Our aim is to preserve its unique soul,” stated Anderson. “Due to its popularity among rugby enthusiasts, we are also looking into enhancing rugby-related elements, leveraging our Grand Slam Bars’ rich rugby roots, especially concerning the forthcoming international games later in the year and next Six Nations tournament.”
