New Husqvarna road bikes

Husqvarna roadgoing models are set to become part of the portfolio of the Husqvarna brand under BMW management.
The company hopes to be able to continue its dirt bike tradition while exploring the new area of road bikes, producing five new Husqvarna road bikes.
The bikes should be announced as part of Husqvarna’s five-year company plan, and the first bikes off the rank will be equipped with a twin-cylinder Rotax 800cc engine from the BMW GS range.

It seems that the new range has been planned off the development of the sexy and successful Husqvarna Mille3 Concept that was revealed at the 2010 EICMA show.
The idea behind the new Husqvarna range is to have models that distinguish themselves from the BMW line-up, with a different style, lightweight principles and a younger target market.
More after the jump plus a post coming up on just Husqvarna is developing its new range.
MCN says the new models will be the following: An 800cc Husqvarna naked using BMW’s parallel-twin engineA 650cc engine Husqvarna city bike for urban commutingA twincylinder superbike with a BMW Rotax twin-cylinger parallel engine that apparently has the Ducati Hypermotard in its sightsA possible production version of the Mille3 Concept which would be a Husqvarna Flattracker with BMW Rotax engineAn 800cc Husqvarna road-going Enduro with the same Rotax twin-cylinder parallel engineA splash into the world of roadgoing bikes is no easy task and Husqvarna has competition like the MV Agusta Brutale and the Triumph Tiger to contend with.

MCN gives us no details as to when we will see these models developed and whether Husqvarna will be a niche player or will eventually enjoy more mainstream success.
The project obviously requires significant investment and Husqvarna is working on the BMW engines to provide a more distinctive Husqvarna experience, with a sportier feel.
More coming up on the new Husqvarna 900cc engine.
