Despite talks of opening MotoGP to new venues in South American and the Far East to cash in on the booming motorcycle markets, Dorna still remains very Eurocentric, as Carmelo Ezpeleta visited the new proposed Circuit of Wales facility that will be built north of Ebbw Vale – giving his stamp of approval.
The £250m facility which will feature a 3.
5 miles track built according to both FIM and FIA standards, will start construction in July of this year – if they get the okay – and has a consultant like World Superbike rider Leon Haslam.
The venue will be able to host MotoGP, World Superbikes and World Touring Car events, but will also be home to a technology park, international standard karting track, hotel and leisure facilities and a top race academy to develop elite riders and drivers from around Europe and would bring around £2.
5 million per event to the local economy and create 9000 jobs.
“It’s fantastic.
I think this is a very, very important programme for MotoGP and for motorsport in general.
It is good for the area and good for the people and the people behind it will have our help and whatever they need for the programme.
We have been working with them and we will continue with that.
We are more than happy with this programme,” said Ezpeleta who also added that the Circuit of Wales could be added to the calendar as soon as 2015.
