Whether you like the looks or not, the new Lexus IS is a head-turner, and although some critics say that the looks won’t age well we’re not sure that’s the most important thing if you’re interested in the Lexus IS Hybrid.
The new car is supposed to be a BMW 3-Series beater so the interior’s decked out with high quality materials and special attention’s been made to the car’s ride and handling have been.
But the most important aspect is the car’s engine.
The 220 bhp motor is powerful enough but we reckon you should be careful not to choose the CVT gearbox option as it could ruin the driving experience.
The car only emits 99 g/km CO2 when driven in hybrid mode and Lexus are quoting a fuel economy figure of 67.
2 mpg from the car’s 2.
5 litre Atkinson-cycle engine and Lexus Hybrid Drive powertrain.
The firm’s chief designer explains the philosophy behind the latest IS, “The conventional approach involves developing each individual aspect in the hope that they will combine to offer an engaging driving experience.
By contrast, development of the new IS flipped this process on its head, first establishing the pleasurable driving experience owners desire, and then developing the individual performance elements to support it.
”Lexus IS HybridWe’re not sure whether the IS will ever really catch on in Europe because there’s no diesel option at the moment, but we love the spindle grille and boomerang LED lights, which give an aggressive look to the car so hope to see some on the road.
