“National transportation facility”

Dear Editor,

As someone who does not drive, I am dependent on public transportation. Lucky for me, residing within Dublin’s “central hub” allows me to enjoy a frequent and precise public transport service. Regardless of my destination, I rarely wait more than 10 minutes for a bus (though slightly longer wait times may occur on Sundays and bank holidays).

However, I am mindful of the fact that such convenience is not enjoyed by many living outside Dublin.

In view of this, I propose that instead of investing ¤9 billion on a metro system from Dublin Airport – a project of somewhat egotistical nature that’s likely to cause significant disturbances and likely to benefit only a minimal number of people – such funds could be considerably better used to provide a good standard of public transport service for the rest of the country that I may be too complacent about.

A portion of this money could go towards establishing a regular bus service to the airport.

Your sincerely,
Dave Robbie,
Co Dublin.
