“Murder Probe Begins: Elderly Man Dies in Co Down”

The Northern Ireland Police Service is currently conducting a murder inquiry due to the murder of a male in his 60s in Kilkeel, County Down. Additionally, a female is receiving medical attention for injuries to her head following a situation at a residence on Newcastle Road. The authorities have placed a 25-year-old male under arrest on murder and attempted murder charges. As the investigation ensues, police cordons will continue to be stationed in the area. The incident is not viewed as being linked with firearms, according to the police force.

Detective Chief Inspector Anthony Kelly reported that the police were informed about safety concerns for a couple living on Newcastle Road. Upon their arrival, they found an unresponsive, non-breathing male. A woman in her 60s with severe head injuries was also found inside. Medical support was given on location, and she was consequently transported to the hospital where she currently lies in a stable condition. The male, sadly, was confirmed dead at the scene.

DCI Kelly confirmed the arrest of a 25-year-old male under suspicion of murder and attempted murder around 2 pm. The suspect is currently helping the police with their inquiry while in custody. DCI Kelly stated that the investigation to uncover the occurrences remains ongoing. For the moment, the police are not considering the report in connection with firearms.

Expressing her sympathies to the local Kilkeel and broader Mourne community, Newry, Mourne and Down Chief Inspector Lynne Corbett stated that they would be feeling shocked and saddened by the day’s events. She reassured the public that the police are committed to a full investigation into the incident. Meanwhile, the public is urged not to speculate as cordons remain effective.
