“Munster Extends Conor Murray’s Contract”

The Munster Rugby team and the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) have announced a one-year contract extension for scrumhalf Conor Murray. At the age of 34, Murray has notched up 185 appearances and 34 tries for the province, and played 116 times for the national team, scoring 16 tries. He has also represented the Lions on three separate tours.

Speculation regarding the long-term prospects of Peter O’Mahony remains, as no news has been released about the 34-year-old’s role post the current season – his central Ireland contract expires then.

Munster and IRFU have also extended the contract of 25-year-old backrower Jack Daly for another year. Promising youngster Brian Gleeson, a 20-year-old backrow player, has been promoted from academy level to play with the senior squad in the upcoming season. His current season has been thwarted by an ankle injury, but he has an impressive three Champions Cup games under his belt already.

Gleeson is just one out of five academy players who are set to join Munster’s senior squad next season. Other players including Tony Butler, Ethan Coughlan, Mark Donnelly and Edwin Edogbo, have all secured two-year contracts.
