During a service today, it was said that Darren Quigley, a father-of-two and resident of New Oak Estate, who tragically passed away following an attack in Carlow town on Monday, was recognised for his considerable kindness. Mr Quigley, 30, was found battered and in critical condition after police were beckoned to a disturbance at a property within his own neighbourhood slightly beyond 11.40pm.
Emergency medical care was initially administered at the scene, before he was rushed to St Luke’s General Hospital in Kilkenny. Regrettably, his passing was subsequently verified there. Mr Quigley’s father, Tony, fondly depicted him as a man with a warm and generous spirit, marked by a charming, mischievous grin. He added that Darren was generally amiable and cherished simple, humble pursuits such as hunting and fishing. What stood out the most, however, was his towering love for his offspring.
His brother, Adam, expressed gratitude for the support everyone has shown towards them and cherished his everlasting memories of Darren. The attendees of the funeral learned of the intense grief the incident has caused his family; parents Tony and Michelle, daughters Ava and Erica, brother Adam, grandmother Agnes and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, and friends.
In connection to the disturbing incident on Monday, a woman in her 30s was detained during a subsequent operation, who was later presented at a special court hearing. Sabrina Kehoe, also in her 30s and a resident of St Mary’s Park in Carlow town, stands accused of Mr Quigley’s murder. She was apprehended the morning after the tragic event.
In addition, Conor O’Brien from Oakley Park, Tullow Road, Carlow, faces charges of carrying weapons into a confrontation. The defendants remain under custody at present.
Mr Quigley was finally laid to rest at St Mary’s Cemetery in Carlow, following his transport from the cathedral.
