Mourinho Booked for Laptop Protest

During a match on Sunday, José Mourinho, the coach of Fenerbahce, received a caution from the referee after protesting a VAR decision that denied a goal. The manager attempted to prove that the decision was erroneous by positioning a laptop in the camera’s view to display an image. Mourinho is a former coach of Manchester United, Chelsea, and Real Madrid from Portugal. He insisted to journalists that his forward, Edin Dzeko, had not been offside and showcased a frame from the run-up to the disallowed goal to back his claim.

Mourinho, after registering a 2-0 victory over Antalyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig expressed, “For us, it’s a legitimate goal” and further stated “I favour effective VAR… I merely desire a VAR that aids the referee in making valid calls.”

Turkey’s Super Lig was accused by Fenerbahce’s chairman, Ali Koc, of having video assistant referees that were prejudiced against his club in April of the previous year. Consequently, the league elected to enlist foreign VARs for the remainder of the 2023-24 season.

Fenerbahce, who finished second last season, are currently second on the leaderboard, collecting 16 points from seven games, and trail the champions Galatasaray by three points. Mourinho’s team will play against FC Twente in the Europa League on Thursday.
