A spokesperson for the Moulin Rouge, Paris’ quintessential cabaret club, informed that the iconic, red windmill’s sails abruptly collapsed in the early morning of Thursday. The incident took place between 2am and 3am, after the final performance of the night, which concluded at 1.15am. The identification of the cause remains unknown, however, there was no reporting of any injuries.
Founded in 1889, the Moulin Rouge is renowned globally as the inception site of the modern can-can dance. It predominantly serves tourist groups as its audience for the dance shows. Over the last few years, the chorus, composed of 70 high-kicking dancers, has featured Dublin-born sisters, Claudine and Isabelle Van Den Bergh. – Reuters
