“Motorcyclist Killed in West Cork Collision”

An appeal for witnesses has been issued by the Gardaí following a fatal vehicular accident which resulted in a 26-year-old male motorcyclist losing his life in west Cork on Monday morning. The incident, involving a collision between a motorbike and a car, took place just outside the Bandon Civic Amenity Recycling Centre located in Knockavale to the west of Bandon town, around 11am.

Heading towards the Clonakilty Road from Baxters Bridge on the Dunmanway Road out of Bandon, the motorcyclist collided with a car being driven by a woman in her 60s. The emergency response was swift, with HSE paramedics attending promptly but sadly, the motorcyclist was declared deceased at the site of the accident. His body was transported to Cork University Hospital for postmortem examinations. The release of the victim’s identity is being withheld until family members are informed.

The car driver, a local woman from the Bandon vicinity, avoided serious injuries from the crash but had to be treated for shock due to the distress caused by the accident. If anyone witnessed this collision or has any dashcam footage, they are encouraged to get in touch with the Bandon Gardaí at their station by dialling 023 885 2200.

Furthering the tragedy, this unfortunate accident brings the total fatalities on Irish roads for 2024 up to 90, a sobering increase from 81 from the identical time span in the previous year.
