A fatal accident involving a single motorcycle occurred on the road between Turlough Hill and Wicklow Gap, within the picturesque Wicklow Mountains. The man in his thirties, who was riding the motorcycle, lost his life in the accident that happened slightly before 10pm on Thursday night on the R756 route at Turlough Hill. Postmortem procedures are being prepared after his body was taken away from the tragic scene, as confirmed by the Garda Press Office.
The R756 road, an attractive east-west path that wanders high through the Wicklow mountains, remains sealed off. Local detours have been established as a comprehensive technical analysis is currently being carried out by collision specialists from Garda forensics. The Gardaí encourages any potential witnesses of the accident, particularly those in possession of potentially useful footage (like dashcam recordings), to come forward. They are particularly interested in anyone who drove through the Turlough Hill area between 9:30pm and 10pm on 20th June, 2024. In another unfortunate event, a septuagenarian was gravely injured during a single-vehicle crash in Sligo. The incident transpired at around 8:10pm on Pearse Road in Sligo Town on Thursday. The only occupant of the vehicle was the driver who has been subsequently transported to Sligo University Hospital in critical condition. Road closures have been implemented along the Pearse Road and Mail Coach Road in Sligo Town and local detour routes have been arranged.
