MotoGP Silverstone Qualifying: Lorenzo Rules in another Crash Session

Jorge Lorenzo took his first pole position of the season in this afternoon’s qualifying session at Silverstone, but it was Randy de Puniet who actually grabbed the attention by finishing in second and crashing out in the final seconds and Dani Pedrosa’s third place, was marred by a bad crash, when his Honda hit him on his right knee, leg and ankle.

Pedrosa was taken from the gravel trap on a stretcher and then to the Clinica Mobile in an ambulance, but was seen walking into the Clinica under his own power.
Lorenzo put in a best lap of 2:03.
688 to move ahead of the hard-riding Randy de Puniet, who had an advantage of over 0.
7sec over the rest of the field with 15 minutes to go, but the Spaniard who leads in the standings, was able to shorten DePuniet’s advantage and then pull away by 0.
126s.
Andrea Dovizioso qualified fourth taking the spot away from Nicky Hayden in the last laps.
Casey Stoner will be starting in sixth.
The Aussie complaining that former 250cc riders do not move away from the racing line when the other riders are on their hot laps.

Both Ducati riders are off by one second from Lorenzo’s pole position.
Seventh went to an injured Ben Spies who crashed in this morning’s free practice followed by both Marcos of Team Gresini, Melandri and Simoncelli in eighth and ninth respectively.
Colin Edwards ended the session in 10th.
Hector Barbera was the best satellite Ducati in eleventh and Loris Capirossi and Alvaro Bautista were only 14th and 15th in what is considered Suzuki’s home race.
