The sunshine abandoned Silverstone circuit just ten minutes into the MotoGP practice and it started raining minutes after Ben Spies posted the best time of 2:06.
651, leaving Casey Stoner who was leading the session up to then almost a second adrift.
All the riders returned to their garages and no one changed to wet tires and just waited for the small rain cloud to pass by and the session re-started in the dry.
Casey Stoner in the end took the best time and he lapped in 2:04.
791 and this not withstanding the the new standard issue front tire that has been fully implemented from this round and the Honda Repsol riders don’t like.
Ben Spies was second and he was just 0.
034s from Stoner, but he was hampered by Gresini’s CRT rider Michele Pirro in the final corner in his flying lap.
Alvaro Bautista grabbed the third position and he was 0.
204s from the factory Honda rider and these top three were the only ones to lap under the 2.
05 barrier.
After going 1-2 this morning in the wet, Ducati riders Nicky Hayden took fourth whis his last flying lap after lagging down in 9th, while Valentino Rossi dropped back to 11th and he was massive +2.
334 seconds from the top of the charts and the last prototype rider but strangely enough in the finale he was mounting used tires on his GP12 instead of a fresh set like the rest of the field.
Stefan Bradl made a big jump forward in his last lap to take fifth and an even six tenths off pace and followed by Andrea Dovizioso.
Jorge Lorenzo ended up 7th and he seemed to struggle a little as Cal Crutchlow on the satellite Yamaha M1 was just 0.
086s from the the factory rider in 8th.
If Lorenzo seemed to struggle, Dani Pedrosa was even worse off as he was 9th and more than a second from his team mate.
Hector Barbera closed out the top ten.
The fastest CRT rider was again Randy De Puniet who is using a new swingarm on his ART machin while, Colin Edwards moved up to 19th after spending almost the entire session in his garage with his Suter-BMW suffering technical issues.
