Moto2: Pol Espargaro wins at Assen ahead of Scott Redding

Pole sitter Pol Espargaro (Tuenti HP 40) from Spain and Brit Scott Redding (Marc VDS Racing Team), both on Kalex machines, put up a very enjoyable battle at Assen this afternoon for the 7th round of the Moto2 World Championship, with the former eventually taking the win with an overtake on the latter on the main straight of track, a manouvre he completed at the very beginning of the last lap.

Redding could’t try to pay back the Spaniard in the remainder of the track and had to settle for second, a result that allows him to remain at the top of the standings with 134 points, with espargaro now second 30 points behind.
Switzerland’s Dominique Aegerter (Technomag carXpert), who was tenth on the starting grid, took the third spot with his Suter – the second podium finish of his career – ahead of Redding’s team mate Mika Kallio of Finland and Espargaro’s team mate and fellow-countryman Esteve Rabat, who’s third now in the championship with 86 points.
Johan Zarco (Came Iodaracing Project), Xavier Simeon (Desguaces La Torre Maptaq), Tom Luthi (Interwetten Paddock Moto2 Racing), Jordi Torres (Aspar Team Moto2) and Anthony West (QMMF Racing Team) rounded off today’s Top 10.

In the wake of former Champion Toni Elias who couldn’t even make it to the grid, another three riders didn’t finisg the race: Simone Corsi (NGM Mobile Racing), Kyle Smith (Blusens Avintia) and Mike di Meglio (JiR Moto2).
