Mother, Daughter Killed in Mayo Crash

On Tuesday evening, in County Mayo, a tragic car accident claimed the lives of two relatives – a mother and her young girl. Their car collided with a lorry on the N26 road at Callow, located between Foxford and Swinford around 5:45pm. The emergency response to this accident involved a significant number of paramedics, gardaí and fire brigade personnel who worked through the evening.

The site of the crash was closed off in preparation for a comprehensive forensic examination by the Garda. The closure is expected to stay in place until further notice, with alternate routes provided for road users. Local residents commented on the extreme severity of the accident scene. Both victims hailed from the immediate area in central County Mayo.

A statement was released confirming that a woman in her 40s, who was the driver of the car, along with a young female passenger lost their lives in the accident and their bodies remained on site. The lorry driver involved in the collision received medical attention for his injuries, but they are considered not life-threatening.

The gardaí are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or anyone who was travelling along the N26 between Foxford and Swinford between 5pm and 6pm on Tuesday and may have recorded any relevant footage to come forward.
