“Mother-Daughter Duo Named in Mayo Crash”

The victims of a fatal accident that happened in Co Mayo on Tuesday have been identified as Aisling Moore, 46, and her daughter, Abbigael Moore-Tournié, 8, both from Swinford. The collision, which included a lorry and a personal vehicle, unfolded around 5:45pm on N26, in the vicinity of Lismoran and Foxford.

One of the earliest condolences came from Kiltimagh GAA club. They shared their grief, saying, “The tragic demise of our U-10 squad participant Abbigael and her caring mother Aisling Moore leaves us with profound sadness and burdened hearts.” They further described Abbigael as “a jovial, affable girl” and expressed their sorrow for the family and acquaintances. A prayer for their peaceful rest was added.

Although the driver of the lorry was hospitalised, his injuries were not life-threatening. The accident site was temporarily cordoned off for the Garda forensic team’s investigation but is now reopened.

Father Padraig Costello of the neighbouring Foxford parish stated that he was informed about the unfortunate incident around 6:30pm that night. He added, he provided prayers at the site, which was the only thing in his power to do at such a tragic scene.

Reports recounted that the beloved mother and daughter relocated to Swinford from France some time ago and became an integral part of the local happenings. Abbiegael, who started training at Swinford Athletic Club at the age of five, showed promise as a budding athlete.

The club expressed their grief on a social media post on Wednesday, proclaiming that the local athletic community is “torn apart beyond description”.

The social media post from Facebook highlighted Abbiegael’s dedication to her club, as she was consistently the first child at the gate every Tuesday evening, come rain, shine, or hail. Abbiegael’s love for gymnastics, running and fun were clear, as she never missed a single session.

Aisling Moore also played an essential role in the Swinford Athletic Club, offering her energetic and enthusiastic support whenever possible. In addition to her athletic involvement, Aisling held membership in the Clann Machua Drama Group in Kiltimagh. Abigail was an underage player with Kiltimagh GAA Club.

As four unfortunate deaths occurred on the roads of Ireland within 24 hours between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, the Gardaí have requested that anyone who was in the area at the time, especially those who might have dash camera footage, to get in touch with them at the Ballina Garda station, the Garda Confidential line, or any local Garda station.

Tragically, a man in his 50s was the solo occupant in a one-car collision on the R395 at Teevrevagh Castlepollard, Co Westmeath on the evening of Tuesday, July 2nd and was pronounced dead at the scene. A separate incident occurred close to Castlepollard on Wednesday morning, where a man in his 80s died and three others were injured in a two-car accident on the R394 at Gartlandstown. This man, a passenger in one of the vehicles, was pronounced dead at the scene. A female driver in her 60s was transported to the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore with serious injuries, according to a statement from the Garda Press Office.
