Monteriggioni: fortified mediaeval town in Tuscany hosts mediaeval festival

Monteriggioni in Tuscany is a stunning mediaeval town completely surrounded by a circular wall and towers.
It sits on top of a hill, not far from Siena, with views of the surrounding Tuscan countryside.
What the small town with only two main streets lacks in size, it makes up for in atmosphere.

It has two arched doorways to enter, a central piazza, and shops and restaurants where you can sit and take in the lovely architecture.
Monteriggioni is the kind of place where you step back in time – a window on a past world.
You can let your imagination run wild, and doesn’t take much to visualise the daily life of a mediaeval town.
To really get involved in bygone days, the mediaeval festival takes place from July 3rd to 5th, and the July 10-12.
See the program for the festival details.
