There has been a notable increase in passport inspections on aircrafts landing in Dublin in recent months, as part of an intensified effort to stop people entering the nation without appropriate travel documentation. Around 6.5% of flights entering Dublin are now liable to on-the-spot passport screening. Over the first seven months of 2024, the Border Management Unit, in tandem with the Garda National Immigration Unit, conducted passport inspections at the exit gates of more than 4,500 incoming flights. Approximately 2,000 of these immediate checks happened in July alone, as officials bolstered measures to deter undocumented asylum seekers.
