Millions Paid to Irish Firms

According to recent figures, the firm providing housing to Ukrainians and international protection (IP) applicants in Dublin’s Citywest Hotel, Cape Wrath Hotel Ltd, received over €20 million from the State in the quarter ending in June. So far this year, Tetrach Capital, who owns the company, received more than €36 million for these housing services. Tetrach Capital is an unlimited company founded by Michael McElligott and James Byrne in 2011. Their assets also include the Mount Juliet Estate in Co Kilkenny, but recent financial details aren’t publicly accessible.

The Dept of Integration’s latest record of payments above €20,000 made in 2024’s second quarter reveals that a wide array of companies received hundreds of millions of euros for offering accommodation to the department. During this quarter, Mosney Holidays plc, which doesn’t release financial records, received €14.24 million for providing accommodation to IP applicants at the former holiday resort in Co Meath.

Guestford Ltd, which owns the Red Cow Moran Hotel in Dublin, earned €8.5 million for offering accommodation to IP applicants in the same period, following an approximate payment of €9.5 million in the previous quarter. IGO Emergency Management, owned by IGO Café Ltd, located in Dublin’s Sallynoggin Road, Dún Laoghaire, netted €13.37 million in this quarter, after receiving €5.55 million in the first three months of the year.

IGO Café, owned by Ann Murphy from Co Tipperary’s Borrisokane and Cristina Andries of Sallynoggin Road, turned a profit of €882,126 in 2023, based on the most recent records. Additionally, in the second quarter, companies linked to former Monaghan GAA football manager Séamus McEnaney and his extended family received €16.68 million.

Brimwood Unlimited, a family-owned business from Corvalley, Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan, headed by the McEnaney clan, has received payments of €10 million. JMA Ventures, Tydavnet, Co Monaghan, under the ownership of James McCarville (34), received €4.5 million within this year’s second quarter. Remarkably, JMA Ventures managed to lift its profit from just €124,000 in the previous year to €1.7 million in the year until August 2023. Margaret McCarville, Mr McEnaney’s sister, once held a directorial role in the company.

In the same quarter, Oakgate Ltd, based in Carrickmacross, was handed over more than €2 million. The company, half-owned by Ms McCarville, closed its fiscal year in April 2023 with a profit of €2.48 million.

Similarly, an array of Tifco hotel group establishments, such as Travelodge, Hilton, and Holiday Inn, have collectively received over €50 million to date this year for providing accommodation. This includes an €18 million payment in the second quarter. The Tifco group received €4.3 million within the June quarter and is under the proprietorship of Apollo Global, a US-based private equity enterprise. In the same period, Hotel Inn Dublin Airport earned €5.6 million, Hilton Dublin gained €120,000, and Travelodge took in €8 million.

Total Experience Ltd, located on Canal Road, Dublin 6, co-owned by Brian McDermott and Jamie Deasy, secured close to €9 million in the same quarter.

Likewise, during the same period, payments exceeding €6 million were sent to D Hotel Drogheda, Co Louth; DHGL Ltd, which is under Dalata Hotel Group; and Windward Management Ltd, positioned on Fleet Street, Dublin 2.

Allpro Security Services from Galway received €6.7 million, while Bridgestock Care Ltd in Co Roscommon accumulated €2.7 million.
