“Meta Fined €202M for Nigerian Violations”

Meta Platforms has incurred a penalty of $220 million (£169 million), issued by Nigeria due to the firm’s breach of local consumer, data protection and privacy regulations through data-sharing on its Facebook and WhatsApp platforms, disclosed Adama Abdullahi, the chief of the country’s anti-competitive authority, on Friday. The country’s Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) accused Meta of misusing data of Nigerian users on its platforms without their agreement, exploiting its dominant market position and unfairly discriminating Nigerians in comparison to other areas with similar directives. Meta has yet to provide a response.
