Met Éireann Warns: Weekend Storm

Met Éireann has announced weather alerts for Ireland due to the expected arrival of Storm Ashley, the inaugural named storm of the season, this Sunday. The orange wind alert, applied to Galway and Mayo, is set to be in force from Sunday noon until 9pm, with wind speeds potentially reaching 120km/h. High spring tides might also cause coastal flooding.

A yellow status warning, covering the remainder of the Republic of Ireland, will commence from 10am Sunday to midnight Monday. An identical alert has been established by the Met Office for Northern Ireland, and this will be in effect from 3am Sunday to Monday noon.

An overarching marine yellow alert covers the whole of Ireland’s coastlines. Kyran Durnin, a boy from Drogheda, has been missing since his removal from school two years ago. Critiques question whether Mary Lou’s decision to not side with Fianna Fáil has thwarted her chances to be the first female Taoiseach, while restaurants fight to persist as Fridays and Mondays are no longer busy.

Looking ahead, Sunday is expected to see heavy rain and strong winds across the nation, with a possibility of isolated thunderstorms. Atlantic coastal regions may experience particularly powerful winds, with potential for disruption. The weather will improve by Monday, with winds dying down, and a largely dry day interrupted by occasional showers in Atlantic coastal areas.
