Met Éireann Warns Six Counties

Met Éireann has issued new rainfall alerts for a number of counties previously impacted by Storm Ashley. Counties including Mayo, Galway, Clare, Limerick, Kerry, and Cork have been given yellow rainfall warnings, which are due to commence at 3pm on Thursday. Warnings for Kerry and Cork are anticipated to last until 1pm the following day, whereas those for the other regions will be withdrawn earlier, at 3am on Friday.

Storm Ashley, the inaugural named storm of the season, resulted in substantial disruption and ruin along the western coast during the weekend. Numerous households lost power due to the storm, particularly in Galway, Mayo, and Kerry. Coastal flooding was observed in Galway, and hazardous conditions led to numerous flight cancellations in Dublin and Belfast, as well as to the postponement of sporting fixtures such as a few Gaelic football county grand finals.

Met Éireann predicts intense and prolonged rainfall in Cork and Kerry from Thursday to Friday, potentially leading to thunderstorms. Localised flooding, tricky travel circumstances, and poor visibility are also possible. Similar warnings have been provided for counties Clare, Limerick, Galway, and Mayo.

Thursday morning is forecasted to be rainy in the west and northwest, and the rainfall could intensify as the day progresses. Other parts of the country may experience a largely dry morning, with isolated light showers or drizzle. The rainfall is likely to extend towards the east in the afternoon and evening, which Met Éireann suggests could result in localised flooding. Daytime temperatures are likely to fluctuate between 13 to 16 degrees Celsius.

Thursday night will be soggy and gusty, with rainfall countrywide, with Munster and Leinster expected to bear the brunt of it. Localised flooding could potentially occur.
