McSharry Shatters Irish Record in Canada

Yesterday in Canada, Mona McSharry shattered her own 200m breaststroke Irish record, with a 2:22.49 time during the heats which she closely followed up with a 2:22.68 time in the finals. This performance at the Mel Zajac International in Vancouver took two seconds off her previous 2:24.50 record from 2023, positioning her seventh worldwide for this year.

Having already met the Olympic Qualification Time for the 100m breaststroke at Fukuoka in 2023, McSharry’s recent achievement stands below the 200m breaststroke OQT, hence providing her with an opportunity to participate in this event at the forthcoming Games.

Meanwhile, the sporting world is shifting its focus to Belgrade for the concluding night of racing. Shane Ryan and Nathan Wiffen are set to steal the limelight in their respective finals. Due to a rescheduling, Wiffen’s final in the revised 1500m freestyle race will take place at 5:10pm, a bit later than initially planned. Soon after, at 5:30pm, Ryan is expected to dazzle in the 50m Freestyle final, maintaining the momentum from his remarkable performance on Saturday.
