McIlroy Dismisses Rumours of LIV Golf Move

Rory McIlroy has debunked rumours of a potentially shocking transition to LIV Golf, that has been doing the rounds recently. McIlroy, who’s been a vocal critic of the Saudi-backed offshoot, has denied any plans to switch allegiance via a deal estimated at $850 million, as a report from London’s economic publication City AM suggested. Sean O’Flaherty, McIlroy’s manager, labelled the report as “fabricated.”

Queried regarding these claims prior to the RBC Heritage this week, McIlroy expressed confusion as to how such rumours come into existence, during a dialogue with Golf Channel, excerpts of which he later shared on his X account, the platform previously known as Twitter. McIlroy stated he has not received an offer from LIV and has never entertained the idea of joining them.

McIlroy clarified that while he doesn’t pass judgement on those who opt to play in Saudi, the PGA Tour continues to be his professional home and that has never changed. He also remarked that he remains clueless about the source of these baseless rumours and re-emphasised his commitment to the PGA Tour for his entire professional tenure. He also acknowledged that dealing with such rumours is regrettably a part of the current status of the game.
