Race 2 at the Czech circuit of Brno was almost an exact carbon copy of race 1, with Max Biaggi and Marco Melandri duelling for the entire race and Carlos Checa hanging on, but never actually getting between the two battling Italians.
Only this time Max Biaggi gave himself a belated 40th birthday present with a victory in a final two lap thriller with his fellow countryman.
Biaggi again got the holeshot from his pole position and Melandri was once again his shadow.
The Yamaha rider took the lead with 13 laps to go, but the Roman Emperor wasn’t having any and regained the head of the race, fastly changing his rhythm and giving it a big push.
Melandri continuing his tailing of the Aprilia Alitalia rider, pouncing on the penultimate lap at turn 3, but Biaggi replicated at turn 8 holding off the R1 rider to the line, and finishing .
222s ahead, almost the same gap as in race 1.
Michel Fabrizio was fourth again and Eugene Laverty was fifth and Ayrton Badovini took sixth, repeating exactly the same finishing positions as in race 1.
Leon Haslam was seventh followed by Kawasaki’s Joan Lascorz, Sylvain Guintoli and Noriyuki Haga who closed out the top ten.
Sam Lowes crashed out as did Jakub Smrz, who lost the front of his Ducati.
Both Ruben Xaus and Chris Vermeulen opted out of the second race due to physical problemsAfter this eighth round Biaggi is now only 30 points behind Carlos Checa.
